Hits by Misses
If any one act symbolized the Detroit-to-Vegas crossover
success of Motown Records in the '60s, it was the Supremes.
Diana Ross and company racked up a dozen pop-chart No. 1 hits
between 1964 and 1969; at the same time, they were as likely to
perform a Broadway standard as "Love Child" during
visits to The Ed Sullivan Show. The four-CD (plus, for a
limited time, a fifth disc of live material) box set The
Supremes is the most complete overview of their career
ever, sure to astound even hardcore fans and collectors. In
addition to the Supremes' long honor roll of hits, it includes
early sides done when the group was known as the Primettes, live
material, 45-rpm mixes, alternate versions, and other rare and
previously unreleased tracks. And one full CD is devoted to the post-Ross group.
The Ultimate Collections

Smokey
Robinson and the Miracles, and the Commodores.
