Nazi Uniforms of the Third Reich

The Wafen-SS - The

A
Collector's Guide to Third Reich Militaria
by Robin Lumsden
Paperback (1989)
A great general reference. If you only want
one, THIS IS IT! Although its getting a bit dated (for pricing, I only wish we
could by at these prices) Lumsden is truly an expert, he includes a lot of good info on
ferreting out fakes. An overall great reference, its small size makes it great
for taking along to antique and militaria shows & flea
markets, etc.
The author, Wade Krawczyk-Australia , June 7, 1997
I hope my book encourages collectors to read and research. I wrote this book
because it was the sort of photographic reference that I wish had been around when I
started collecting. Collectors should be encouraged to read and research as much as
possible. I hope my effort has helped.
Tons of superb photos of high-end Heer militaria! Well-organised, high-quality
photos (along with numerous close-ups of prominent features) accompanied by insightful
text provide an excellent sourcebook for collectors and historians. Author
traces the development of Heer uniforms throughout the course of the war in a series of
plates depicting models dressed entirely in period uniforms. Well-researched
and well-presented! For it's price one of the best on the market.
This is great for those who don't want to read
encyclopedic texts on uniforms. The photos are alive in full color and with
rich details. The natural backdrop helps a lot to create an aura of period
realism. Also equipment and weapons are well illustrated with the
uniforms. I suppose there are more expensive and authoritative works but this
one is a gem that would satisfy many.
Camouflage
Uniforms of the Waffen-SS:
A Photographic Reference
by Michael Beaver, J.F. Borsarello
Hardcover (1997)One of the best if not the best works on the camo
patterns of the Waffen-SS that I have come across not only in
American lit. but as well as German sources. also is a very periodical look to arms,
equipment as well as unit insignia.
Messrs. Beaver and Borsarello have achieved a Herculean task with the completion of this
work. The writing and photographs alone are worth the price. There are many obscure
and rare late war prototypes featured from private collections all over the world.
It also covers accoutrements such as helmet covers, caps, mosquito netting
(for snipers) mittens, APC clothing as well as rare photos of the SS paratroop uniforms.
I own nearly every title that Amazon has on the subject of the Waffen SS, and almost every title that can be obtained in the US, and
this title is by far the most informative, well thought out title on the subject!
