Field Marshall Erwin
Rommel
Attacks: ROMMEL
by Erwin Rommel
Paperback (1979)
Excellent Book for all Military Leaders of All
Ranks This book is must! All leaders, from platoons to companies
must read this book. Rommel was a great Tank Commander during WWII, but as a young
infantry officer in WWI, Rommel sets the stage for all infantrymen of all nations. His
ability to describe in detail his encounters with the French illustrates the timeless
"field craft" missing in today's army. This book will certainly save our young
men's lives. CPT Alex Isaac, A Co, 2-2 IN, 3rd BDE, 1st Infantry Division,

Very interesting. "Achtung Panzer" is
THE definitive book about German panzer theory development, tactics, and strategy by a man
who should know, Heinz Guderian. If you think this is a dry, technical book you couldn't
be more mistaken, it is very well written and eminently readable. I recommend it highly!
A seminal classic. This now obscure book conveyed and infused the seminal concepts
that became known as "Blitzkrieg". No complete study of armored warfare would
overlook this title. Very much recommended.
Not at all difficult to read, and even a bit intense
during his narrations, this is an in depth look at the brillience of Erwin
Rommel.
Undoubtably the most perceptive and insightful German commander of the war, Rommel
exhibits incredible understranding of troops, commanders, and what is possible and
impossible on the battle field. His remarkable ability for retrospect provides
engrossing lessons and conclusions of modern mechanzied warfare that any military
historian or strategy goo-roo craves. Primarily about the African campaigns,
and of the fall of France, Rommel recounts the events of every battle, and then analyzes
the outcome, and reasons for that outcome without bias. This book will provide
a thorough grounding and clear understanding of mechanized warfare, and a great respect
for its greatest engineer.

A meticulously researched chronicle which details the life and character of a complex
warrior. Rommel's integrity and skills were such that he enjoyed a popularity in Germany
that rivaled Hitler's (even though he was not a member of the Nazi Party), and he earned
the respect and admiration of his enemies, including Churchill.

An excellent account of Axis luck and Allied folly.
Samuel Mitchum has done an excellent job of leading the reader through the
events that have become known as Rommel's crowning acheivement during the North African
campaign. In order to forestall the British, Rommel launches his much
reinforced Panzer Armee into the attack to rest the fortress of Tobruk from the allies and
drive the Eighth Army back across the frontier. With faulty intelligence, and
an almost as faulty a plan he should have been defeated, but wasn't. Why?
Mitcham shows us clearly the flow of the battles that lead up to the fall
of Tobruk. Luck, both good and bad, on one side then the other, constantly
influences the outcome of the many engagements. Differing styles of command,
failures of intelligence, or failing to respond in a timely manner to good intelligence
all played a role during the Gazala battles. Rommel is shown at his most
daring, out fighting and constantly outmaneuvering his British counterparts.
The
British, on the otherhand, are still learning their trade in this new style of
warfare. The British commands failures are as much a reason for Rommel's
success as Rommel's own tactics and aggressive handling of his numerically inferior
armour. This book is a 'must read' for any student of the war in North Africa.
