ONE SMALL STEP celebrates the 30th anniversary of
NASA's historic July 1969 moon landing, the milestone that was the culmination of John F.
Kennedy's 1961 commitment to putting a man on the moon by the end of the
decade. Filled with documentary photographs from NASA and the National Air and
Space Museum as well as images from film, television, and
advertising, this beautiful book looks at our fascination with outer space, the
development of NASA, the training of the Apollo 11 astronauts, and the thrilling televised
lunar landing that captivated the world. The text also explores the cultural
influence of space travel, from 1950s sci-fi movies and 2001: A Space Odyssey, to
space-oriented fashions and toys. This delightful, nostalgic volume reminds
older readers of the thrill of the moon landing, while it illuminates the space race for
younger readers. A lively illustrated volume that takes a fond look back at
the historic 1969 moon landing.
The book includes the Press Kit and Pre and Post flight
Mission reports. As an added bonus we have included the Post-flight press conference
in the crews own words. The CDROM includes two 30 minute movies of the flight as well as
over 1300 still pictures taken during the mission. We are particularly happy
with the Quicktime Virtual Reality of Tranquillity Base
which was constructed from the original 70 mm images taken by Neil Armstrong.
The CDROM includes three different panoramas and although you can view them in your
browser we recommend you view them using the Movie Player provided, to get the full
effect. A treasure trove for Space afficionados. The Apollo 11 Mission
Reports Vol One with foreword by Buzz Aldrin truly contains some amazing details about the
mission. It's not just another picture book about planting the flag.
This
really tells everybody from novices and students right up to aerospace engineers how it
was done. You could almost fly your own mission with the plethora of detail
enclosed here. The CD-ROM contains one hour of official NASA video, as well as
EVERY 70mm photo taken by the crew (1395) cataloged in order. It also contains something
completely new... Three of the panoramas taken by Neil of Tranquility base have been
stitched together into a seamless Quick Time Video that you can pan and zoom around.
This gives an awesome never before seen vista of what it really looked like
up there. Vol two book contains the recently declassified (for this book) official crew
debriefing in Houston after the mission in the crews own words. It is
fascinating and tells you what it was really like on that mission, including the famous
UFO report in their own words (particularly intriguing). The CD_ROM in Vol two
includes the full 2.5 hour uncut unedited moonwalk, the fourth panorama taken by Buzz, as
well as an exclusive video interview (50min) with Buzz himself. The Quick Time
videos of the landing site makes one feel like being in a movie. Outstanding!! Apollo
11: The NASA Mission Reports
by Robert Godwin
Paperback & Cd Rom (1999)
We needed a second volume. I am
particularly proud of our accomplishments with Volume 2 of Apollo 11.
Not only
is it the first time that the post-flight debriefing has been published to the public but
we also have pushed the CDROM to capacity. We have included, nearly 3½ hours of
video. The entire uncut television broadcast of the moonwalk, but also an
exclusive interview with Buzz Aldrin conducted in June 99. We also managed to
cram on one more Quicktime VR panorama of Tranquillity Base, this one includes the only
good photograph of Neil Armstrong on the surface while processing the bulk sample.
Make sure you view the VR using the QT player to get the full effect.
A must reference for ANY Space History Buff ...
The APOLLO MISSION REPORTS published by Apogee Books, are an excellent source
for Space History buffs. Each book includes press kits from the flight, pre
and post mission summaries, and a fabulous bonus CDROM which has the official NASA mission
report movies lasting about 17-29 minutes. The CD also has some GREAT color
and black and white photographs. I recommend them as a great resource!
